The Devon Hotel is an established hotel in New Plymouth. It required a new multi-purpose conference centre to be built alongside & into the existing complex. The brief was for this new space to accommodate trade promotions, functions, cabaret shows, weddings, and conferences. The new area needed to flow into the existing Hotel, Jackson Architects solution was to create a large flexible space divided by operable walls to give various permutations of size to suit each use. The technology for lighting, sound and air-conditioning was also configured into these flexible zones.
The décor was the hard nut to crack given the many uses for this space. Johanna created a neutral “black and white” backdrop for any use, from a dark theatrical ambience to a smart business setting.
Interface “RAW” modular carpet tile was chosen to add a textured, weathered look to the floor, almost like an impressionist tapestry. Concurrently the Raw carpet tile exuded the New Plymouth coastline and to help create the flow of the building, the existing carpet (including within the suites, on modular underlay) was replaced with RAW. The result, simply WOW.
The owner was so impressed with the fact that a carpet tile could be uplifted ‘within seconds’ and a replacement put down ‘within seconds’ ensuring his suite was operational again ‘within seconds’ due to a wine spill, makeup spill, food spill etc. that he actually pushed for the carpet tiles to go throughout the facility.
Lost room nights due to carpet re-medials was costing thousands of dollars each year, with carpet tile, the remedial cost had disappeared over night.
Lastly from the team at Inzide Commercial, THANK YOU Johanna and the team at Jackson Architects for showcasing our products so well.
