The Red Beach Surf Life Saving Club is an icon of the Hibiscus Coast.
Formed in the summer of 1953 after founding member Toby Mitchell witnessed a drowning at nearby Orewa beach from his batch between Red Beach and Orewa. Since that summer countless lives have been saved. In 1983 the current building replaced the original headquarters that were no longer large enough for such a popular club.
The current building having housed the club for 35 years was in need of a significant revamp, with many structural upgrades required. A whole new look for the exterior has been matched with a revamp of the interior. The club is a multi-purpose building and the members were after a design aesthetic that would be suitable for day-to-day club activities but also easily jazzed up for the many functions that they have throughout the year.
Interface Carpet tile was the ideal choice for the club with the nature inspired patterning of the Human Nature Collection closely replicating the sand patterns seen on the beach just a few steps away. The outcome is luxurious, easy to maintain and looks spectacular in this setting, a true example of bringing nature Inzide.
You will notice in one of the photos the carpet tile pulled up – this is showing you the pressure release system used to lay the tiles. It is a fantastic way to install carpet tile in a multi-use space like clubs where mess and spills are inevitable.
Picture this; someone spills a coke or drops their bucket of chips covered in tomato sauce, no problem. Lift the edge of the carpet tile, temporarily replace with a spare one and rinse/clean the tile out, let it dry and place it back in its spot – so simple, anyone can do it at any time.
