Carbon Reduction Initiatives

INZIDE commercial tracks, reduces and offsets carbon for all the products it sells in New Zealand. This includes from where we take ownership of the product (for Interface - at the Port of departure wherever we source the product anywhere in the world, through to when we supply the product to the customer.

Interface Inc. also counts carbon and now offsets the amount for the product manufacture and supply to the customer all around the world. So between us we have a small double up on carbon tracking from the Mill of departure to our warehouse.

We have deliberately excluded recycling activities from our carbon offsets for INZIDE. We track it but do not want to be carbon penalized for increasing our recycling activities. Please read our Carbon Management plan to get more detail here of this deliberate exclusion which has been agreed to by the carboNZero auditor.

4. The major carbon issues for Inzide Commercial are airfreight (product into New Zealand) and truck distribution (transporting product around NZ). Airfreight is recurred when projects require carpet tile to avoid late penalties. Hence our customer demand airfreight and we meet their requests. Container shipping is low carbon intensity. Removing trucks from the road is a stated objective and we continue to put efforts into rail and coastal shipping. Our current challenge is inbound freight which has become by far the biggest carbon emission.  This is due to the longer transit distance as the majority of our stock now comes from Europe and Asia.  83% of all inbound stock compared to only 44% in 2011.
