Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Inzide Commercial tracks, reduces and offsets carbon for our business in New Zealand. We start recording from where we take ownership of the product, ie port of departure, anywhere in the world, through to when we deliver the product to the customer, anywhere in NZ. We have been doing this since 2007. We are committed to zero carbon footprint for our business.

Other ways that Inzide Commercial drives carbon down outside of our organisation are;

  1. Support SBN’s Circular Economy initiative https://sustainable.org.nz/the-circular-economy-model-office-guide/.
  2. Inzide’s product stewardship scheme https://www.mfe.govt.nz/node/23986/ - Recycled carpet tile has a 3kg/CO2/m2 versus a standard carpet tile having 6kg/CO2/m2 (Interface) and up to 15kg/CO2/m2 (Competitors)
  3. Utilising Rail for freight whenever we can – not only does an electrified rail system save 12 times more carbon than a truck freight system but it also keeps trucks off NZ roads. We had to change the OWENS/Kiwirail system to manage this but being the thought leaders in this space means we are continuously pushing boundaries. If only we could get the IRD to reduce FBT on electric vehicles versus double cab utes.

Here is a summary of our results. Our aim is to achieve a carbon intensity of 1kg of carbon for each metre square sold = 1kg/Co2/m2

3. Major carbon items – 77% of our total carbon comes from importing the product into the country and distributing it to our customers. This is our business. Removing trucks from the road is a stated objective and we need to ensure that our distribution via rail is maximised. We also ship product direct to port wherever possible to reduce road transportation.
