With 20% of New Zealand's carbon emissions attributed to the built environment, there is a huge opportunity to improve Aotearoa's carbon position for the future of our world. By supporting those who invest in resources and technology to achieve carbon neutrality, we can significantly reduce the carbon emissions attributed to the built environment. The New Zealand Green Building Council has recently started a 12-month consultation process to introduce carbon-related points for Greenstar and a calculator to track and encourage the industry's movement forward in this space. It is the way of the future for the built environment.

Recycling is an essential part of reducing carbon emissions and is a top priority for Fisher & Paykel. The company has been using Interface's recycled carpet tiles for approximately 19 years now because they are recycable and has been ensuring that the tiles are recycled when they reach the end of their life through the Re-Entry recycling programme. With 20% of New Zealand's carbon emissions attributed to the built environment, Fisher & Paykel's commitment to sustainable flooring is commendable.

When the time came to upgrade Fisher & Paykel's Stewart building, they chose Warren & Mahoney Architects for the facelift who have also supported carbon reduction and waste minimisation efforts in the building industry. To date, approximately 6580m² of Interface Carpet tiles have been uplifted from the Stewart building. 1 container has already been sent back to Australia with a further 2 more to go to be recycled into new Interface carpet tiles. Once, complete approx 70 tonnes of carpet tile would be diverted from landfill.

For the new fitout of the Stewart building, Interface's Aerial Flying Colours Collection has been specified by Warren & Mahoney, and is currently being installed.

Aerial Flying Colours collection offers:

  • 15-year full-performance warranty, including castor chairs

  • Life-time anti-microbial

  • Closed-loop recyclability at end-of-life.

  • Carbon Neutrality

Congratulations to both Hills Commercial and Warren & Mahoney on an exceptional result and thank you to Fisher & Paykel for choosing Carbon Neutral Floors by Interface once again.
