The new GHD office in Wellington, located in the heart of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, embraces a thoughtful integration of design, sustainability, and culture. For the flooring, Interface's World Woven collection, supplied by Inzide, plays a pivotal role in enhancing the aesthetic and functional elements of the office. The office features Pattern WW890 in a custom colourway along with pattern Black Dobby, and the 870 pattern in Charcoal Weft. These carpet tiles are intricately laid in colour-blocked curves, serving not only as wayfinding but also as a subtle yet effective way to define breakout spaces. This design encourages employees to easily navigate through the office, fostering an environment of ease and creativity.
The World Woven collection, inspired by timeless textiles like tweed, brings warmth and texture into the space. Its style recalls the natural tones of undyed wool, subtly incorporating variation with 100% recycled yarn. The inclusion of recycled materials aligns with GHD’s dedication to environmental responsibility, which is echoed throughout the office's entire design approach. These tiles are installed using Tactiles, allowing for a glue-free installation that simplifies the recycling process at end-of-life through Interface’s ReEntry program. This method also supports GHD's goal to minimize environmental impact and adhere to the principles of sustainability.
With an RPV rating of ≥12, the World Woven collection is ideal for spaces striving for NZGBC Greenstar accreditation, an important benchmark that the BNZ Place, home to GHD’s office, has already achieved a 5 Star Green Star rating.
This careful choice of materials perfectly complements the broader design narrative in the space, which weaves cultural expressions through every aspect of the workplace. GHD's office is deeply influenced by Te Ara Tupua, and the cultural significance of the Wellington waterfront, honouring mana whenua. The patterns created on the floor with the curved edges, along with indigenous Māori art and storytelling, symbolise the connection between land, sea, and people—mirroring the strong sense of place that the office seeks to cultivate for both staff and visitors.
With panoramic views of the city, Mt. Victoria, and the harbour, the office offers a truly stunning environment for employees, blending cultural significance, sustainability, and functionality into one cohesive experience. Well done on an outstanding design, GHD. Thank you for choosing Interface Carpet Tiles for your very own office fit out.
