Interface are going 'all in' on solving the climate crisis

Interface are going ‘all in’ on solving the climate crisis

The launch of our bio-based, carbon negative backing, CQuestBio, changed everything.

We now know it’s possible to store more carbon than we emit and are proud to offer this flooring advancement in New Zealand. Join us on the carbon reduction journey and specify CQuestBio Carpet tiles to reduce your project’s carbon footprint.

CQuestBio is a notable step in our journey, over the past 30 years, we have made dramatic progress in reducing our carbon emissions across our products, operations, and supply chain. This includes advancements in product design, manufacturing processes, raw material sourcing, and collaboration with our suppliers and partners.

Today, Interface offers the lowest carbon footprint carpet tile products in the market globally, based on publicly available emissions data provided in Environmental Product Declarations.

We still have much more work to do. We must act now to meet the urgency of the climate crisis, focusing on absolute carbon reduction and carbon storage innovation.

We're going all in on carbon.

2030 Science based Targets

We want to fix the carbon issue at the source, choosing to redirect funds previously used for offsets, into capital investments. Doing this allows us to have a greater impact, sooner, in order to meet the ambitious 1.5ºC aligned science-based targets initiative we have set to achieve by 2030.

Our goals are set to a 2019 baseline year. This was the first full

year of data collection after our acquisition of the nora® rubber

flooring business, and it was also the year we declared success

on Mission Zero. Having already made so much incredible

progress is rare for any company in any industry — and it means we have a steeper hill to climb to 2030.

Carbon Negative Enterprise by 2040

We aim to be a completely carbon negative enterprise, without offsets, worldwide, by 2040.

Carbon negative carpet tile changed everything for Interface. We now know it’s possible to store more carbon than we emit, and we want to challenge ourselves and others to become carbon negative, enterprise-wide, without offsets.

Over the last 25 years, we have made great progress with Carpet Tile, reducing the products carbon footprint by 74% cradle-to-cradle. We plan to use this knowledge and experience to reduce the carbon footprint of the rest of our product portfolio, including LVT and rubber flooring.

These ambitious goals will be achieved by adopting these strategies.

  • Reimagining product development and manufacturing, as well as the raw materials we use, to achieve our carbon reduction and carbon storage goals.

  • Reducing the carbon footprint of our products through manufacturing and raw material innovations and increasing recycled content.

  • Increasing the bio-based materials in our carpet tile products to accelerate our path to achieving our science-based targets.

  • Exploring opportunities and partnerships in our supply chain to address scope 3 emissions in the future.

  • Identifying and driving commercial adoption of circular models across our product categories.

We remain committed to Product Stewardship

We take responsibility for our flooring products. We are the only company that offers a Ministry for the Environment-certified, flooring recycling program in New Zealand.

We encourage you to consider recycling Interface carpet tiles with us at every opportunity so that we can close the loop and reduce environmental impact.

To date, we have facilitated the re-use or recycling of over 531 tonnes of flooring products.
